Arlene Avidan has a diverse background in the field of Architecture and design. Based in both New York and Los Angeles, she spent fifteen years as a Senior Designer and Senior Project manager for various Fortune 500 Companies including Shearson Lehman Brothers, Herman Miller, Inc. and the Equitable. The opportunity to design and manage construction for over 10 million square feet of commercial space has provided her with a solid background in all phases of design and construction from the initial program through design development, project management and construction management. In addition, she has worked for such prestigious NYC firms as Perkins Eastman Architects, P.C., Iu & Lewis Design and Rockwell Architecture Planning and Design. As a Project Architect for Rockwell, Ms. Avidan was involved in the design of high profile retail and restaurant projects within the realm of themed entertainment. Past projects include an award winning 217,000 square foot Independent Living Complex for the Osborn Retirement Community in Rye, New York. It uniquely combined the disciplines of planning, architecture and interiors. She was responsible for designing 94 independent living units as well as the common amenities within the complex. Other built projects include the highly recognized Laurence Rockefeller Outpatient facility for Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City, the headquarters for Helen Keller Worldwide, 150,000 square feet interiors for the headquarters of Swiss Re in Armonk, NY.
In 2004, Ms. Avidan joined forces with Allison Eden Karn to form Avidan Karn Associates. The partnership has designed and built numerous residential and small commercial projects in New York City and the entire Tri State area. Recently, she has completed two full single home residential addition/renovations in both Katonah, New York and Freeport Maine. Current projects include an extensive renovation of a residential loft in the Greenwich Village. Ms. Avidan received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and her Masters of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has also done graduate work at Columbia University and has a Certificate in Real Estate from New York University. She is a registered and licensed Architect in the State of New York. Ms. Avidan is a strong believer in sustainable design and is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional. Ms. Avidan lives in Westchester County with her husband, Martin. She has been published in New Woman Magazine, Contract Interiors, Facilities Management and Architectural Record. Arlene enjoys running, swimming and skiing. She is a core member of Urban Green Council, and The American Institute of Architects.
